Albania’s EU Path Strengthened with Latest Negotiation Progress
Albania took a significant step forward in its journey towards European Union membership with the successful conclusion of the 6th Intergovernmental Conference held yesterday in Brussels. The conference marked the official opening of negotiations for Chapter IV, focusing on the Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity.

The launch of negotiations for Chapter IV brings the total number of open chapters to 28. Specific chapters opened during this phase include:

European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, praised Albania’s progress as “deeply impressive,” highlighting the EU’s strong support for the country’s plan to conclude negotiations. The aim is to have all chapters finalized by 2027, signifying a “green light” for accession.
Challenges and Commitments Ahead
Despite the positive momentum, Albania faces complex challenges and demanding commitments, particularly concerning Chapter IV and Chapter 6, which is focused on agriculture. The government acknowledges these hurdles as essential steps towards completing the accession process by 2027.
Next Steps in the Integration Process
The upcoming Intergovernmental Conference scheduled for October is expected to successfully conclude the initial phase of negotiations, further solidifying Albania’s path towards full EU membership. The government remains committed to fulfilling all necessary requirements to achieve this goal.
